Players - DoV Setup
Return to: Players | Tutorials | Portal | Forum | Project Manager | Bug Tracker
If you currently have a copy of EverQuestII installed and try to install DoV Then you will be presented with a warning that you have an existing install with two options. Unless you want to mess up your current install the choose the Install into another location option. When you get to the section to choose a installation path it might be better to use a path like C:\EQ2Emu\Clients\DoV. This will give you room to add new clients as well other things like tools or the launcher.
The client needs a few things before it will connect to the emulator. One of these happens to be patching. You will need to download the patcher. You can also view the original thread where part of this guide was written from.
Once the patcher is downloaded unzip the four files. I just put them right in the DoV dir. When this is finished run the EQ2EMuPatcher.exe. On the first run you should be greeted with a box saying you need to specify where the EQ2 dir is located. Click the OK button and browse to the install location. You will have to select the EverQuest2.exe so the patcher knows where to find it.
Next you will be asked to enter the address. This is already filled in so click on Set to move on.
Now you need to choose the EQ2Emu version you want to patch to. For the DoV box set you need to choose 7628L (Current) and click on Set.
You will probably have another box pop up asking if you would like to update these files and in the list will be EQ2EMuPatcher.exe. Click on Update Files to continue.
It will now begin getting the files needed and patching. It does not take long and says in the window Files downloaded and updated.
The nice part about it all is that your eq2_default.in has now been set to connect to the emulator, but the client is still not ready to actually connect just yet.
In order to avoid a possible incompatible UI it needs to be updated. Download the UI. You can also view the original post if you would like. The steps are very easy. In your install folder rename the UI folder to UIOrignal then unzip the downloaded file into your install folder.
In order to launch the client to connect to the emulator the EverQuest2.exe must be used. A shortcut can be made to the desktop by right clicking and choose Send to then Desktop (create shortcut). You can rename the desktop shortcut to what ever you like that will allow you to distinguish between Live and Emulator clients Do not try to use the LaunchPad.exe. This will connect to daybreak/SOE and undo the changes made to the eq2_default.ini, and will update your client. You do not want that as live support is not updated very often for the emulator without enough interest. In fact if you want to delete the LaunchPad.exe go right ahead and do that.
Before you begin play you must register a forum account, and create a login account using the Account Management section. After that is complete you are now ready to launch your fresh copy of Destiny of Velious set up to connect to the emulator. ENJOY!!
I feel like these questions would be better moved to the Players Faq section. Until I get the time to move them I will leave them here.
Question: I get this window when I click on my character info or other button while in game.
Answer: Rename / Back up your UI folder and use this one instead. (Thank you Xinux. Answer taken from this thread http://www.eq2emulator.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=1535&start=60)

Question: I can't move my "Bottomless Bag of Envy" window, (The huge backpack alpha testers start off with), the backpack is too large to fit on my screen and I can't access the top to move it.
Answer: Move your mouse to the side of the backpacks window until you see the arrow which allows you to make the window wider. Drag the window much wider than it is (20 slots wide probably works) then right click on the window. Select Window settings and then click on the default location button. This will move the window further down in the screen. From there you can adjust the window size to your liking.
