In the latest release (0.7.1), many features have been implemented. See the Project Status Module for a complete list. We are still in an ALPHA development stage, so nothing is 100% complete. Combat, spells, quests, items, loot, even mounts have found their way into the code. Everything requires a second look, so when you are playing on an EQ2Emulator, we ask that you utilize the /bug command in-game and report anything you find that is not working.

To play on the emulator you must first have a legal copy of a compatible Everquest II client. See compatible clients list
+
There is an AoM client located on Steam that EQ2Emulator.net supports. Visit the detailed AoM guide for setup instructions. There is even a video to walk you through the whole process

Asking on the forums on how to illegally get Everquest 2 is frowned upon, you will not receive an answer and you may possibly be banned, so please do not ask this question.

It is advised that you backup your Everquest 2 directory so that you can play both on Sony's Live servers while testing the server emulator out.

Client versions that work
The current supported client will always be updated on the main page of our Portal. Check there before asking questions about your current version being supported. If your version is higher than our current, you will have to wait til EQ2Emulator gets updated to your version.

ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR CLIENT FILES BEFORE CONNECTING TO SOE LIVE SERVERS!

In fact, it is highly recommended that you make a copy of your live EQ2 client and use that only for EQ2Emulator, keeping the two completely separate so patching will not break your current Emu client.

Everyone that wants to play, or host a server even, will need to register a forum account. The process is simple, read through the terms and click on the agree button if you do agree to the terms. The next page is where you will enter you information like username, password, etc. Everything on this page will need to be filled out. Once you are done with that you should get an email that will allow you to activate your forum account.

It is recommend that you use the EQ2Emu Launcher. This will ensure the eq2_default.ini is correctly set for the emulator.
For boxed set clients it is suggested to run the EQ2Emu Patch Utility. (I'm not sure if it's required for the live / current / streaming clients).

This is being provided for some users that seem to need help transitioning between live and the EQ2Emu version. This program should be rather straight forward and has a setup process that you have to follow. If you have any questions or run into issues you can ask them here.

We've switched to supporting this tool as part of our EQ2Emulator Core Utilities. See the details below for how to use this tool properly.

First, unpack the RAR file. You should have 4 files in the folder:

Run EQ2EMuPatcher.exe. On first launch, it will ask you where your EQ2 Dir is. If it does not, click the button "Change EQ2 Dir":

Browse to your Everquest II folder where the Everquest2.exe file is and select it. Then click Open. (In Windows 8 the directory is C:\Users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\EverQuest II)

Pick which version you wish to patch to. By default, 5122L is selected.

If your Everquest2.exe does not match our version, you will be asked if you wish to patch that file.

A backup is always made, but you should ALWAYS back up your own files accordingly (specifically, Everquest2.exe in this case)

For boxed set clients it is suggested to run the EQ2Emu Patch Utility.

If patching was successful, you should see a screen like this:

DoV is the best option, and may soon be the only option, in box sets to connect to the emulator. If you follow the DoV setup guide then you can skip this section.

In order to use the client with the emulator you need to run the Everquest2.exe. There should not be any patching screen, you should be taken directly into the game login. Players - How to connect

Return to: Players | Tutorials | Portal | Forum | Project Manager | Bug Tracker

Notice

There is an AoM client located on Steam that EQ2Emulator.net supports. Visit the detailed AoM guide for setup instructions. There is even a video to walk you through the whole process

It is advised that you backup your Everquest 2 directory so that you can play both on Sony's Live servers while testing the server emulator out.

Forum account setup

Everyone that wants to play, or host a server even, will need to register a forum account. The process is simple, read through the terms and click on the agree button if you do agree to the terms. The next page is where you will enter you information like username, password, etc. Everything on this page will need to be filled out. Once you are done with that you should get an email that will allow you to activate your forum account.

Login account setup

Once you have a forum account you will need to create a login account

To do this, use the Account Management module found on our portal.

Click on 'Create a Login Account', complete the form and click on "Register Account", Now you can begin connecting to the server.

Configure the Client

To connect to an emulator server you must first edit your eq_default.ini file.

Find the line similar to

cl_ls_address 199.108.12.33 199.108.........

and change it to

cl_ls_address eq2emulator.net

It is recommend that you use the EQ2Emu Launcher. This will ensure the eq2_default.ini is correctly set for the emulator.

Box sets Only

For boxed set clients it is suggested to run the EQ2Emu Patch Utility.

DoV is the best option, and may soon be the only option, in box sets to connect to the emulator. If you follow the DoV setup guide then you can skip this section.

Launching the client

If you are using the EQ2Emu Launcher you can skip this part.

In order to use the client with the emulator you need to run the Everquest2.exe. There should not be any patching screen, you should be taken directly into the game login. If your game shows up with the sony patcher then it may be because you have clicked a shortcut link to the patcher instead of clicking on the Everquest2.exe program.

Archive Client Setup Guides

The DoV setup guide should still be in working order to get a copy of DoV setup and connected.

The free client setup guide is not supported at this time.

This is a list of the older client setup guides that are outdated and not likely to work.
