In order to launch the client to connect to the emulator the '''EverQuest2.exe''' must be used. A shortcut can be made to the desktop by right clicking and choose ''Send to'' then ''Desktop (create shortcut)''. You can rename the desktop shortcut to what ever you like that will allow you to distinguish between ''Live'' and ''Emulator'' clients Do not try to use the ''LaunchPad.exe''. This will connect to daybreak/SOE and undo the changes made to the eq2_default.ini, and possibly update your client. You do not want that as live support is not updated very often for the emulator without enough interest. Players - Free Client Setup (live)
Return to: Players | Tutorials | Portal | Forum | Project Manager | Bug Tracker
You can get a copy of the live client form the EverQuest II website. Once you have downloaded the client you need to make sure you change over to the full client from the streaming version. This is accomplished by going into the advanced tools tab aka settings tab. In the advanced settings menu choose the Select Game Version option. Beside the Full Download make sure the box is checked. This will re-download your client install. It is something like 16GB. There is an attached image for a reference.
Locate the install directory. This is usually in C:\users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games. Inside that dir there is a folder EverQuestII, highlight the folder, right click, and copy. Once this is done head over to the root of your hard drive this is C:\, create a folder and name it EQ2Emu clients. Highlight the folder you just created, right click, and paste. This will make a copy of the entire EverQuestII folder into the EQ2Emu clients folder. Congratulations you now have a backup and can prepare it for emulator connection.
A better directory structure for all you emulator needs. C:\EQ2 Inside the EQ2 folder Create different folders for different emulator sections. Example is EQ2Emu Launcher, and EQ2Emu Clients. In your EQ2Emu Clients you will want to create folders for different client versions if you plan on backing up more than one version. Something like AoM 2015.6.15 that will let you know what client you want to use.
There are two methods to configure the client.
The first one is to use the EQ2EmuLauncher. The login credentials for the SVN are SVN Username: anonymous (no password required). There is a setup guide on how to configure the launcher. Once the launcher is setup then it is as easy as using the original EverQuest II launcher.
The second one requires you to edit the eq2_default.ini. This is located inside your C:\EQ2Emu clients\EverQuest II folder. Double click on the eq2_default.ini to have it open up in notepad. Inside this ini file the very top line will be the line you will need to change. It looks something like this
cl_ls_address 69.174.200.10 69.174.200.20.........
and change it to
cl_ls_address eq2emulator.net
This tells EverQuest2.exe to connect to the emulator instead of daybreak/SOE servers. Scroll down to the bottom of the eq2_default.ini and look for
cl_resource_address http://eq2.patch.station.sony.com/patch/eq2/assets/common/
and change it to
// cl_resource_address http://eq2.patch.station.sony.com/patch/eq2/assets/common/
or just delete the line all together. It looks like daybreak/SOE already has this line commented out if so that is ok. All that needs to be done now is to save the file then exit out of notepad.
This method is for those who are not going to be using the EQwEmu Launcher.

Before you begin play you must register a forum account, and create a login account using the Account Management section. After that is complete you are now ready to launch your newly backed up, converted, emulator ready, live client. ENJOY!!
