What to expect

In the latest release (0.7.1), many features have been implemented. See the Project Status Module for a complete list. We are still in an ALPHA development stage, so nothing is 100% complete. Combat, spells, quests, items, loot, even mounts have found their way into the code. Everything requires a second look, so when you are playing on an EQ2Emulator, we ask that you utilize the /bug command in-game and report anything you find that is not working.

Getting a copy of Everquest 2

To play on the emulator you must first have a legal copy of a compatible Everquest II client. See compatible clients list

Asking on the forums on how to illegally get Everquest 2 is frowned upon, you will not receive an answer and you may possibly be banned, so please do not ask this question.

Client versions that work

The current supported client will always be updated on the main page of our Portal. Check there before asking questions about your current version being supported. If your version is higher than our current, you will have to wait til EQ2Emulator gets updated to your version.

ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR CLIENT FILES BEFORE CONNECTING TO SOE LIVE SERVERS!

In fact, it is highly recommended that you make a copy of your live EQ2 client and use that only for EQ2Emulator, keeping the two completely separate so patching will not break your current Emu client.

Example:

C:\<EQ2 Live Install>\

C:\<EQ2 Emu Install>\

Connecting to a Public Server

Getting an account

Before proceeding, you must create a forum account than create player account to play on the public world servers. To do this, use the Account Management module found on our portal.

Click on 'Create a Login Account', complete the form and click on "Register Account", Now you can begin connecting to the server.

Connecting

It is advised that you backup your Everquest 2 directory so that you can play both on Sony's Live servers while testing the server emulator out.

To connect to an emulator server you must first edit your eq_default.ini file.

Find the line similar to

cl_ls_address 199.108.12.33 199.108.........

and change it to

cl_ls_address eq2emulator.net

For boxed set clients it is suggested to run the EQ2Emu Patch Utility. (I'm not sure if it's required for the live / current / streaming clients).

I have copied the information over to the wiki from this thread here.

This is being provided for some users that seem to need help transitioning between live and the EQ2Emu version. This program should be rather straight forward and has a setup process that you have to follow. If you have any questions or run into issues you can ask them here.

Edited by John Adams: 5/10/2011 We've switched to supporting this tool as part of our EQ2Emulator Core Utilities. See the details below for how to use this tool properly.

First, unpack the RAR file. You should have 4 files in the folder:

EQ2EmuPatcher0.jpg

Run EQ2EMuPatcher.exe. On first launch, it will ask you where your EQ2 Dir is. If it does not, click the button "Change EQ2 Dir":

EQ2EmuPatcher1.jpg

Browse to your Everquest II folder where the Everquest2.exe file is and select it. Then click Open. (In Windows 8 the directory is C:\Users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\EverQuest II)

EQ2EmuPatcher2.jpg

Pick which version you wish to patch to. By default, 5122L is selected.

EQ2EmuPatcher4.jpg

If your Everquest2.exe does not match our version, you will be asked if you wish to patch that file.

EQ2EmuPatcher3.jpg

A backup is always made, but you should ALWAYS back up your own files accordingly (specifically, Everquest2.exe in this case)

If patching was successful, you should see a screen like this:

EQ2EmuPatcher5.jpg

Now run the Everquest2.exe to login to the server. There should not be any patching screen, you should be taken directly into the game login. If your game shows up with the sony patcher then it may be because you have clicked a shortcut link to the patcher instead of clicking on the Everquest2.exe program.
